HC-2 dataset: electrode position

Posted by Robson Teixeira at December 01. 2011

Hi there,

I can't figure out where exactly the shanks described in the dataset are located, if in CA1, CA3 or DG.

I suppose all of them are aimed at CA1 (considering AP and ML coordinates), but I couldn't find any exact DV description.

Moreover, in the paper by Mizuseki et al Neuron. 2009 Oct 29;64(2):267-80, by inspecting table S1 shown on page 09 of the supporting material, It seems that neurons from all these areas were used, hence my doubt.

Could you please clarify where the shanks of this dataset are exactly located?

Thank you very much,

Robson S.T.

Hi Robson,
The shanks are located in CA1, based on correspondence from the Buzsaki lab. We've updated the PDF to indicate this.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

Gautam

Based on information provided by Kenji Mizuseki (Research Assistant Professor in the Buzsaki lab), Robson compiled a document giving the relative depths (superficial vs. deep) of the channels in each shank.  This document (crcns-hc2-shank-maps.pdf) is now available from the "About page" for the hc-2 data set.  Thanks Robson. Kenji, Anton and Gautam!
