pvc-2 stimulus size

Posted by Giacomo Cocci at March 24. 2010

Hi,

I'm an italian student in biomedical engineering and I'd like to have a confirmation regarding the size of the stimuli used in the one-dimensional white noise tests (the "msq1D" ones, with 32,767 frames). That size, practically, should be the limit in the spatio-temporal plot's "x"s axes. Is the value I'm looking for the "StiW" field in the .log files associated to each of the 60 cells, and is it expressed in degrees of visual angle?

That field's values go form 7 to 24.2

Thank you in advance,

Giacomo Cocci

Yes. StiW is the dimension of the stimulus in X axis. The unit of the StiW is centimeter (cm).  The distance between the eyes and the screen was 114 cm. Therefore, 1 cm is equivalent to 0.5 degree of visual angle (asin(1/114)/pi*180).

Be aware that in our experiments, Y axis is aligned with the optimal orientation. X axis normally points to the optimal direction measured by drifting gratings.
