About infe-1

Information about the software and accompanying data.

Summary

This package contains some MatLab tools for estimating linear Fisher information from population data.  Also included are two datasets (one synthetic, including the ground truth information; and one recorded in macaque primary visual cortex) to test the code. The code and the data sets are described in the associated paper:

Ingmar Kanitscheider, Ruben Coen-Cagli, Adam Kohn, Alexandre Pouget.
"Measuring Fisher information accurately in correlated neural populations".
PLoS Computational Biology. 2015.  11(6): e1004218
DOI:  10.1371/journal.pcbi.1004218

Format of the data

The synethetic and neural recorded data are provided in MatLab files.  A description of the software and data files are given in the resource description document (linked to at the bottom of this page).  Total side of both data sets is about 7 MB.

How to download

The software and synthetic data may be downloaded directly by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.  The neural data recorded from Macaque must be downloaded from:
https://portal.nersc.gov/project/crcns/download/infe-1
A CRCNS.org account is required. See the download link for more instructions.

How to cite the software or data

See the description document for instructions to follow before publishing a paper using the data.  Publications created through usage of the software or data should cite the publication referenced above and also cite this resource at CRCNS.org in the following recommended format:

Ingmar Kanitscheider, Ruben Coen-Cagli, Adam Kohn, Alexandre Pouget (2015). MatLab tools for estimating linear Fisher information from population data along with synthetic data and recorded spike count responses from neurons in macaque primary visual cortex to grating images with different orientations and white noise. The above citation uses a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) which is assigned to the data set.  The DOI was created using DataCite (www.datacite.org) and the California Digital Library, "EZID" system (http://ezid.cdlib.org/).
